MISSION AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Tanzania Maasai Women Art is an innovative jewellery company which provides environmentally sustainable income generating opportunities for Maasai women using traditional beading skills.

The construction of the Mkuru “cultural boma” was completed at the beginning of 2007 and is used as a workshop for the women, as well as a shop for them to sell their own traditional pieces of jewellery. Shortly after it was built, the land where the cultural boma is located was officially handed over to the women’s group. They now legally own a piece of land! There is still a long way to go, but even small achievements like this are really encouraging.

For the past year two girls have been sponsored to attend the Emusoi School for Maasai girls in Arusha.

The women have registered their own cooperative and are using funds from jewellery sales to set up goat projects.

The retail outlet in Arusha opened in April 2009, contributing to a higher profile for the company and a wider exposure of the products.
