HISTORY
Tanzanian Maasai Women Art (TMWA)
was a project initiated by Istituto Oikos and Oikos East Africa supporting an informal network of Maasai women artisans to over- come poverty by improving their access to education and income generating opportunities.
For centuries beaded jewelry has been a mark of beauty and prosperity among the Maasai tribes of Eastern Africa. Today, thanks to TMWA, it represents the possi- bility for many Maasai women of Tanzania to establish a business that reflects and celebrates their rich cultural heritage.
Our jewelry is an eclectic combination of Italian elegance and traditional Maasai bead work. Our aim is to support local communities while making fabulous access-
ories that women would love to wear.
